Ephesians in 2025-2026

Divisive and difficult times cause us to question feeling 'one' with anybody, much less a local church. But when Paul writes to the church at Ephesus, this is precisely what he expects. "There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call—one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all..." (Ephesians 4:4-6) ...and Paul expects the church to act like it! How can he have such bold expectations?

The answers doesn't come in a particular church's strategy, communication style, relevance, or effectiveness in the world, but in one person: Jesus Christ. Our sins made us dead, alienated from God, "but now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one." Our salvation in Christ alone can, and does, make us one in His church.

Our Hope

We hope to highlight this "oneness" in our new sermon series through the book of Ephesians. This New Testament letter unpacks our salvation and sanctification in the church, being made one and living as one in the world. It contains some of the most famous and impactful verses in Scripture, unpacking the depths of Christ's love for sinners and the call for Christians in various circumstances to walk in love.

Do you feel far from Christ? Hear Paul's prayer "that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God."

Do you feel far from the church? Heed Paul's charge "to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace."

"Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen."
