Matt Holmquist
Lay Elder
WHO ARE YOU?
My name is Matt Holmquist. I have been married to my wife Teri since 2018. God has blessed us with two daughters - Madison (Madi) born in 2022, and Juliette (Juli) born in 2024. Teri and I enjoy playing golf and tennis when we get the opportunity and traveling to visit family.
WHAT DO YOU DO?
I am a lay elder at The Fields, and a tax advisor/CPA by trade. I am thankful for a career that allows me to meet and impact many people in the DFW metroplex and across the country, and for a calling in the local church that allows me share with others what God is teaching me.
WHERE DID YOU COME FROM?
I spent most of my "growing up years" in Little Rock, Arkansas. I was homeschooled, attended college in Arkansas, met my wife in graduate school in Texas, and moved to Arlington for work. Teri and I have lived in Arlington since 2018.
WHEN WERE YOU SAVED?
My parents were faithful to share the gospel with me frequently at a young age, and I remember my parents reading about Jesus dying on the cross. It was clear to me even then that the reason he had to do this was because I was a sinner, and that to receive forgiveness, I must simply pray and ask him for that salvation. Even though in high school and college I had seasons of straying, God ultimately used discipleship, biblical teaching, and community to grow my understanding of who he is and what he has done for me, which bore lasting fruit.
HOW HAS THE GOSPEL IMPACTED YOU RECENTLY?
In our Field Training hour on Sunday mornings, we just finished teaching through overviews of some books in the Old Testament. My view of what Christ came to fulfill is so much richer the more I see the covenant faithfulness of God to his particular people, even when they break His law over and over. The shadows in the Old Testament point to the substance of Jesus in the New Testament. How much more should that compel me in the time and place God has put me in today to trust and obey Him and His calling?
WHY ARE YOU AT THE FIELDS?
My family and I are constantly encouraged with the faithful preaching of God's Word as the final authority. We are also challenged weekly by our community of believers in this body to live out the Scripture as a regular part of life—not just nod along to what is being preached from the pulpit. Whether by regular meetings of our DGroup or more informal iron-sharpening-iron that happens when we intertwine our family lives with others, we are held accountable to treasure the Word, disciple others, and live life on mission in our community.
