Modern culture would have you believe that everyone has a soul mate; that romance is the most important part of a successful marriage; that marriage does not mean 'til death do us part, but merely for as long as my needs are being met; and that when serious differences arise, divorce is the best solution.

According to the Bible, all of these modern-day assumptions miss what marriage is all about. In this six-session video-based Bible study, Timothy Keller, along with Kathy, his wife of forty years, draws a profound portrait of marriage from the pages of Scripture that neither idealizes nor rejects the institution but points us back to the relationship between God and man. The result is a vision for marriage that is refreshingly frank and unsentimental, yet hopeful and beautiful.

This study is truly for anyone; singles, dating couples, married couples, divorced, or widowed, since we all need to have a healthy biblical understanding of marriage and singleness. In fact, the video discussion includes singles and couples, Christians and non-Christians, those divorced and widowed. It even includes one session specifically on singleness!! Rather than focusing on silly pointers to have a healthy marriage, this class goes higher and gives us God's vision for marriage which I believe is even more helpful. I believe this class will help us all to accept, appreciate, support, encourage, and pray for one another even more in this area of our lives.

We will be handing out copies of The Meaning Of Marriage by Tim Keller and asking you to read a chapter or two each week as homework!

Sessions include:

  1. Service: Marriage Isn't about You
  2. Covenant: Created to Make Promises
  3. Roles: Loving through Mutual Submission
  4. Singleness: Strengthening the Spiritual Family
  5. Sex: The Act of Covenant Renewal
  6. Hope: Seeing the Great Horizon

I hope you'll prayerfully consider joining us! And consider inviting someone outside our church to join you, married or single, Christian or not! May God use this to build his church!
